Getting anxious to hit the water!

Enough of this never-ending winter!  I want to get my boat in the water and chase fish, but Mother Nature has a different timetable I guess.  The good news is Lake Michigan is getting much needed precipitation that bodes well for higher water levels than last fall.   I'll be guiding again this season so think about some possible dates for some exciting angling adventures aboard the Osprey with Captain Denny.  Hope to see of my many good clients from years past.

End of season

It is time to close Osprey Charters for the 2012 season.  Looking back it was better than most and there is no doubt the bass fishery is in better shape than ever thanks to catch and release and abundant food.  Major concern for next is Lake Michigan water level.  I have never seen the lake so low in 30 plus years.

Thanks to all my clients and fishing friends for a great summer.

Biggest fish of season

Rick Levin and daughter Amy fished with me yesterday afternoon. Cold front conditions made fishing slow but we managed to boat this beauty.  It measured 21.5" long and weighed 6.5 lbs.  Biggest fish of season so far.  We also caught a 19.5" fish.  Both fish were fat!

Rain equals good fishing

We finally got some much needed rain last week and the fish loved it.   The Oakes family from Wausau fished in the rain and wind with me last week and experienced non-stop bass action.  They caught many big fish over 18" including 20" and 21" bronzebacks.  Page Oakes took the family prize with this 21" beauty.  Nice beating her dad and brother!

Fantastic week!

I am amazed how good the bass fishing is right now.  Jumbo smallmouth bass everywhere it seems.  I took two guys out on Wednesday and we must have boated 2 dozen fish including many over 17 inches.  Check out the pic of them below holding their double.  Today  I took some repeat customers out for some hot action.   James Sullivan outdid his father, Steve, by catching 4 fish over 18 inches including one that hit the 5 lb mark.  James' picture is below.

Time to catch some of the nicest smallmouth bass in North America.  Get on my calendar if you want some fun.

Hot weather, hot action

This past week brought good fishing conditions to Door County.  Bass are taking up their normal summer haunts and feeding more aggressively as the weather warms.   Jacob (9) and Evan Larsen (7) from Appleton, WI fished with their father and me on Wednesday morning.  Jacob showed us all how to catch the big ones.  He landed two in the 4 pound range which made everyone smile.   This picture of Jacob tells it all.

Wind and rain

This week's weather has been challenging for anglers in Door County.  We've seen violent thunderstorms and lots of wind, day after day.  When I can get out the fishing has been excellent.  We could several nice 4 pounders yesterday in spite of wind that made fishing tough.  Looks like weather will improve starting Friday.  Let's hope so as I am getting tired sitting on shore looking at whitecaps.

Plenty of nice fish

When the weather cooperates we are catching some nice smallmouth bass.  A dad and his son had lots of fun last Friday cranking in lots of fish during a morning charter run.  Lasting memories for sure.

June is good!

Weather is good and fishing is better.  Lots of action in shallow water.  I love June

Season getting close!

This warm weather is nuts!  But I'll take it.  No doubt warmer than usual weather means earlier fish spawning too.  I expect to see excellent smallmouth action in June.  New rods and reels are ready along with lots of new baits.  Can't wait to hit the water.  Hope you can join me this season.
