Smallmouth Bass

Captain Denny targets the waters of Northern Door County because it is less crowded than most areas in Door County and holds bountiful smallmouth.  Specific areas fished include Rowleys Bay, North Bay, Ellison Bay, Sister Bay, Newport Bay, Moonlight Bay and the Mink River.  These areas are full of rocky shoals and deep pools providing smallmouth bass a near perfect habitat.  The Mink River is a favorite location.

Smallmouth action remains good from mid-May into fall months during most years. Best fishing times are unpredictable as weather plays such a major factor.  Captain Denny supports catch and release angling and will not allow keeping any legal size fish unless the fish is mortally injured.  If you want a trophy fish to mount, have a reproduction made.  If you want fish to eat, find some walleye, whitefish or panfish; NOT smallies!

Fly fishing trips are a great way to find trophy smallmouth.  This type of fishing is not for novices.  But if you have basic fly fishing skills Captain Denny will take you to some specatacular locations to hone your skills and help you tie into a wall hanger.

Walleye Pike

Walleye action is best on the Green Bay side of the Door County peninsula where waters are warmer than Lake Michigan.  Green Bay waters are teaming with food for walleyes that make them grow fast and big.  Fishing success is similar to Lake Erie.

Walleye pike normally start appearing in northern Green Bay waters mid-summer with excellent action through fall months. Trolling with artificial and live bait is the normal fishing tactic. It is much like trolling for salmon and trout. The minimum legal size is 15 inches. Returning fish over 25 inches is encouraged, but not required.
